Fujifilm Instax Mini LiPlay – Shooting Streets in Tokyo

by derrick

First of all, I wanna put a disclaimer that this is not so much of a product review in a technical way but more of sharing my user experience as a photographer. I am quite sure all the technical specification should be out on the internet at this time when you see this blog post.

When Fujifilm handed me this new instax camera and wanted me to bring it to Japan to do street photography with it. I was honestly a little skeptical.  I love street photography and shoot a lot on the street with the X series camera but never have I tried shooting street with an instax before. Nonetheless, I said yes and the journey began, it was challenging but fun and fruitful. Using the capability of adjusting the exposure from -2 stop to + 2 stop, I have the control on creating dramatic photos with lighting and shadow like how I enjoy doing it with the X series camera. I was impressed with how easy the operation of the camera and the best part, I get to select ONLY what I like to print as we all know, printing instax isn’t cheap. The new function for voice recording is an interesting feature. The first thing came to my mind is I can take an intax photo, record a message on it and give it to someone who can simply scans the QR code on the instax print and retrieve the message I have recorded.

Overall, I didn’t expect too much in the beginning shooting street photography with instax but this Fujifilm Instax Mini LiPlay have proven me otherwise that it’s not juz a selfie/wefie camera. Here are the photos of my experience shooting with Liplay instax in Tokyo:
